The African Agricultural Technology Foundation (AATF) has on Monday, 7 November, 2022, proposed that in order to tackle poverty and food scarcity in Africa, there’s a need to agricultural transformation.
Experts in the foundation claims that if the Nations in the the continent can improve its subsistence agricultural practices to commercial farming, it would increase agricultural productivity and the economy.
As with regards to commercialization, the transformation will job creation as more than 120 million people are presently out of jobs and than 400 million people in Africa are still living with less than $1.25 per day.
Addressing the present state or Agriculture on the continent, the AATF Executive Director, Dr Canisius Kanangire said “Insufficiently developed ecosystem in general for agricultural market developments and that is perhaps limiting the potential of Africa’s agricultural transformation”,
Furthermore, “we need to make the regional food, livestock and the guinea region much more secure in terms of productivity and realize the full potential” he said.
Thus targeted approach towards agricultural transformation with investments by appropriate agencies is estimated to yield $110 to $115 billion annually . Which in turn will uplift the economy, improve food and nutrition security.
