What prompted you to start your business?
I started my business in 2020 during the covid’19 pandemic. The disaster the pandemic caused everyone which cuts across the stay home policy by the government, this rendered my activity at the time useless as I couldn’t go out. In order to make ends meet and stay productive, I had the idea to start my business and I started in 2020.
How much capital did you use to set up this business?
My business scope deals with the fashion industry and since I’m just starting out, I would be needing to procure machines of different types for production and materials. With all these in consideration, I set up my business with a sum of #1.5 million naira (#1,500,000).
Did you share the capital with another person or its sole proprietorship?
I didn’t share the capital with anyone. I decided to venture into the business without a partner as I was capable of setting up the business on my own and also personal reasons and deductions didn’t make me do partnership.
How have you been able to cope with the constant power outage in this location?
The power outage hasn’t really affected me since I already considered the possibilities of the problem, I made provisions for improvisation. So I had a standby generator for my electric powered machines and a non-electric powered pressing iron for doing the ironing of finished cloths. I’ve only had to pay extra cost on fueling my generator.
What other challenges did you face?
I faced a challenge in marketing my brand and harnessingcustomers and client. I needed to attract high-paying clients so as to develop and grow my brand. I sought to manage this challenge by making my brand present o social media platforms and making targeted advertisement post to my ideal clients. I also ran some social media paid adverts in order to generate traffic to my timeline.
How satisfied are you with the sales traffic?
I would say I’m 75% satisfied as regards current sales traffic. Even as I know that there has been a lot of great change in my sale compared to when I launched my business, I hope to make more improvement and growth as time goes on.
How do you procure your products?
I produce the wears myself after buying fabrics from the market.
How much is the estimated sales per month?
My sales per month is not fixed as it depends on the amount of cloth orders I get. Averagely, I earn up to #350,000 in a month.
Where did you see yourself in the next 5 years?
In the next 5 years, I dream to own a standard fashion store where I sell ready to wear dresses and produce in mass based on contract. I hope to be an award winning fashion personality and an owner of an award winning fashion brand both nationally and internationally. I hope to have trained a number of students in the fashion industry.
How did you intend to support the Nigerian Economy and the society?
I intend to support the Nigeria Economy through the creation of my fashion school. A training center where youths can learn the fashion skill in a modern way in order to forge a career path for themselves. By these, many of them will be gainfully employed on their own without waiting on the government to create job opportunities. This can help reduce the rate of youth unemployment in the society.
